Music

The United Church Choir

The choir performs a wide variety of music in the regular worship service each week, in selected German-language services, and in several concerts each year. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:45 p.m. in the choir room. All singers are welcome - contact us if you would like to join!

Concerts

The United Church hosts several concerts each year, featuring the talents of performers from around the world, particularly visiting musicians from Germany. Annual highlights include the ever-popular Washington Saengerbund's Christmas concert.

The United Church Organ

The organ at the United Church was built in 1980 by the Alfred Fuehrer Orgelbau of Wilhelmshaven, Germany. It incorporates many of the techniques that were perfected and practiced by eighteenth century North German organbuilders, Arp Schnitger in particular. The solid oak case was designed to augment and radiate the organ's tone and to reflect some of the motifs in the church windows. The key and stop actions are mechanical and are constructed almost entirely of wood.

Our Hymnal

We use The New Century Hymnal in our worship. This hymnal from the United Church of Christ was one of the first hymnals to use inclusive language. It includes a wide variety of new and old hymns from numerous cultures and traditions. We also supplement it with music from United Methodist and other traditions, such as Taize.
